Ever
since 1969, Amitabh Bachchan has enthralled audiences worldwide with his deft
portrayal of the angry young man. Through
roles ranging from a young rags-to-riches gangster, a policeman, a convict on
the loose, and everything in between, Amitabh Bachchan has played a large role
in making Bollywood the institution that it is today. According to the latest Bollywood updates, on October
11th, 2012, the actor turned 70. One of India’s most popular journalists, Arnab
Goswami, played host to the legend in his talk show titled ‘Frankly Speaking’.
As the namesake, the show engages the actor in some candid moments that get the
actor to spill some intimate details about his life thus far - Bollywood and
beyond.
Over
the course of the show, Amitabh Bachchan speaks at length about his status as a
Bollywood legend and how this larger-than-life persona attracts fans from
throughout the world. From India to England, the actor has won hearts from almost
every continent. In the show he speaks about his fans and how he is all so
humbled by their largesse. He even recollects some of his incidents involving
his fans. During his younger days, the Bollywood actor was hospitalised
numerous times for injuries from his movies. He recollects a certain injury he
had faced during the shooting of the movie Coolie
during which he severely injured his back and was bedridden for days. He
thanks his fans and peers for giving him the support needed during the trying times.
“When I had a bit of treatment and I
came home, I spent many days by myself and I felt that providence doesn’t want
me to continue. And that is why these disabilities or accidents are coming
across to me”, he
recalls.
No stranger to being a regular on
the latest Bollywood news, the Big B
has tried it all. He had earlier dabbled with politics and business. During the
talk show he takes us through his journeys in both these varied fields and
unravels his close personal relationship with the Gandhi family, specifically
Rajiv Gandhi, a frequent subject of Bollywood gossip. The actor was close
friends with Rajiv Gandhi even before he became the Prime Minister of India.
His respect for politicians stems from his tryst as a politician. He feels that
a politician needs to have the personality to take immense stress and still
steer the ship of national responsibility. On this he comments, “It’s a
very very difficult task, you have to be made of some kind of metal to be able
to exist and survive in that.”
Amitabh
Bachchan rarely finds the time to reflect upon his illustrious past and his
exciting future projects. Unlike other Bollywood news videos, this is a one-off
interview he has with Arnab Goswami in which the veteran actor shows us the
person behind the legend.
